QE Home & Quilts Etc sells bedding and linens, including duvet covers, duvets, quilts, sheet sets, throws, blankets and kids bedding. The brand's Pillow Talk blog takes on thread count, explaining the difference between percale vs sateen sheets and what makes a great sheet. It describes percale as a plain weave with a one-over-one-under structure, a matte finish and a crisp, cool hand feel. Sateen is described as a four-over-one-under weave that places more threads on the fabric's surface for a subtle sheen and a silky-smooth touch. The same guidance covers how thread count is measured, counting the horizontal weft and vertical warp threads woven into a fabric, and notes that a higher number does not always mean higher quality.
