How to use a code from Promo Code Index

One button does the work: the code copies, the store opens in a new tab, and you paste the code at checkout. Here is each step, what the link in between does, and the one thing we cannot tell you.

  1. Find an offer

Search for a store from the header, or browse by category.

Every code and deal sits on its own card, with the offer as the retailer worded it and, where the retailer stated an end date, that date printed beside it. A card with no code is a deal: there is nothing to copy and nothing to paste, and how the retailer applies it is the retailer’s to say.

  2. Press the button on that offer

One press does two things at once: the code goes to your clipboard, and the store opens in a new tab.

The button reads “Copy code & open store”; on a deal with no code it reads “Get deal” and there is nothing to paste. Either way the tab you are reading stays where it is, and the code appears in it.

If your browser refuses the clipboard, you lose nothing: the code is printed on screen for you to select by hand. Promo Code Index never tells you a code was copied when the copy did not happen.

  3. The store opens through a tracked link

The new tab does not go straight to the retailer. It passes through a Promo Code Index link that records the click and tags it with our publisher id, then hands you on to the store.

That tagged link is the thing a retailer’s affiliate programme pays on, and it is how this site is funded. It changes nothing about the price you are shown or the checkout you land on.

  4. Paste the code at checkout

Paste it into the promo or discount field at the retailer’s checkout, then apply it before you pay.

The tab you started in keeps the code on screen, so you can come back for it if the field turns out to be further into the order than you expected.

  5. Whether it comes off your basket is decided there, not here

Promo Code Index cannot tell you whether a code will apply to a particular basket. We never see your basket, and we never put a code through a retailer’s checkout to find out.

A code can be exactly as the retailer published it and still be refused at the till: minimum spends, excluded brands, one-per-shopper rules and a retailer pulling a promotion early are all decided on the retailer’s side, after you leave this site. What a code here does come with is where it came from and when that source was last read. What we can tell you about a code sets out how far that goes, and where it stops.

  6. Tell us whether it worked

On a store page, the panel that hands you the code asks one question: did this work? Answering takes a tap and is optional.

Those reports help decide the order codes appear in. Promo Code Index does not print them as a score beside a code, and no page here shows how many people have used one.

When the button sends you to a handoff page

If your press lands before the page’s JavaScript is ready, or JavaScript is off entirely, the button opens a handoff page instead of the store.

That page shows the code in large type with its own copy button, and then continues to the store by itself after about four seconds. “Go now” skips the wait; resting your pointer or your keyboard focus on the code holds the countdown while you read it, for up to half a minute in all. It is the only page on Promo Code Index that moves you along on a timer, and it does that only because you pressed a button one step earlier.
